Beer and Wine Beginners Kits
The good and well priced 40 pint(/5 gallon)
beginners brewing kits are no longer available. We have not been able to find a
replacement which we think is worth the money and which works well. If you phone or
come to the shop we will put together a good brewing starter kit for you. You will
need a 5 gallon (or prefereably 6 gallon) fermenter, a long spoon or beer paddle, a syphon
with u-bend, a 5 gallon keg (or 40 pint bottles, crown caps and a crown capper.)
As a guide.....the keg option comes to about £55.00 (with S-30 keg top) and the bottle option
comes to about £65.00 but these prices will vary depending on the quality of the items you
choose. On top of this you will need sterilizer and the 40 pint kit of your choice.
The BruBox (and replenishment kits)
The above photos show a typical BruBox and
its contents.
Although we are generally not in
favour of kits which ferment, store and dispense beer from the same container without
racking, as these kits contain good quality yeasts which settle well we think they are a
good idea for people who want to try out brewing their own beers and lagers without having
to make a full-blown invenstment and those without a lot of room for storing large
fermenters and kegs. The main drawback is that you must not move the container or
place it on a surface which may move and disturb the contents as the result will be cloudy
beer. Provided the instructions are followed closely they can be reused again and
again by buying the Beers of the World replenishment kits listed below.
The starter kits contain everything you need to brew 10 litres (about 2 gallons) of
beer or lager, except for the water.
